The field of Instructional Design has seen a multitude of learning/teaching approaches.
  • Problem-based
  • Discussion-centered
  • Simulation & Gaming
  • Case-based Studies
  • Inquiry-based Studies
  • Direct or Explicit Instruction
  • Experiential or free-play

Some are behaviorist-oriented, some are constructivist oriented, and some cognitivist oriented.  Many designers employ a pragmatic approach that blends elements from the different philosophies (based on the learning need).
