This novel does not meet the criteria for classic Science Fiction, since it relies on rich, fully-developed characters and a reflection on recent history to explore what might happen in the near future based on current historical progress.
When this story was first drafted, (a) the U.S. Government would not disclose its level of research with biological weapons, and (b) Americans could not yet conceive of the possibility of electing a Black President.
Just think what could happen if/when Blacks became the majority. Will they treat other ethnic groups with the same equality and social consideration that they were given? I hope not.
